As i was looking around for inspiration for an upcoming shoot for my Passport brand. I have been looking for great photography as well as striking individuals to shoot, came across this great shoot from 2005 with one of my favorite models, Omahyra, shot by veteran photographer and fem erotic specialist Ellen Von Unwerth. Seems over the last couple of years as a brand  YSL has become a household name amongst a younger, street savy consumer. Anyone who knows me knows that i love to see our demographic embrace edgier fashion, But people also know that i’m about the culture and history that makes these designers and brands unique. With this being said, thought i’d post a piece on one of the most prolific designers of our time. Produced in 1992, it’s a great insight on the rise of an icon, enjoy this piece and get your history on!

A couple of weeks ago, I was sittin around with some of the fam having a youtube battle for throwback supremacy, we took it to twitter and got some of our people from all over involved. We officially dubbed it throwback thursdays, here are a couple of my favorite joints from back in the day.

Straight out of Brooklyn’s Coney Island, Sneaktip is a brand that started out with symbolic tee’s and sweatshirts to commemorate classic sneakers, icons and sayings of sneaker culture. The Sneaktip brand has come along way since then with a full scale collection, cut n sew items and a couple of new divisions on the way. Brand director Marlon Raichel has grown his brand into a force to be reckoned with, Keep your eyes peeled this year as Sneaktip comes at you full throttle, get involved!!!

Been watching this collection for a while, I’ve been getting the feeling lately that everyone is searching for elegance paired with simplicity as we seem to be in the midst of an evoloution in men’s fashion ( again! ). I think Band of outsiders has done a great job mixing staple “americana” ( there’s that word again! ), silouhettes, with traditional european tailoring and detail, check the pics below.

This crew right here seriously inspired everyone I know in the 90’s, to get busy on the dance floor, and get fresh while doin it. One step further, they merged their hip hop dance style with NY’s growing house music scene at the time. Is it just me or does anyone else out there see a hint of this coming back? Electro music mashing with progressive hip hop artists, dance music culture seeming to be more prevelant, “classic americana” fashion coming back to the streets, don’t say i did’nt tell you!

Stepped out to Marina Del Rey the other day for a mtg. with my man Evan, one of the brains behind new footwear brand 100 style& running. I rarely get to this part of town, but when i do, i definitely try to take in as much as i can, we decided to step out for a bite, and what did we find, Aunt Kizzy’s, an LA staple soul-food spot that has recently made it’s way to the Marina, not at all what i expected to find. All i can say is great location, great food, and great prospects for the future after  this meeting, thanks again Ev for all of your help with the passport brand.

Alot of people know my man Kimball Lynch from various circles within the fashion industry, just recenty he and brother Kyle (the real K. Lynch!/ inside joke), began grinding together on a product that Kyle has been working on for some years now, Gorilla life juices made from a base of Chlorophyl mixed with several other herbs , and sweetened with either Agave or Honey depending on the flavor you choose.

 As most of you know I’m a strict vegetarian of 14 years and am constantly looking for healthy ( yet great tasting ), elements to add to and better my diet. I have to say that my first thought when hearing “green Juice”, was that this was going to be some kind of wheat grass/ juice hybrid, but in reality, the juice tasted like a lime-aid flavored slushee ( always drink them partially frozen!/ thank me later ), Needless to say I was gassed to find something that was this good for me, with such an incredible taste, I challenge everyone out there to try one of the juices, you might just surprize your self ,while giving your body something it needs. The drink was actually a recipe created by their grandmother to cure the ashtma condition of her grandaughter, not only did it work, but the juice became a phenomenon in their community, now Kyle and Kimball are taking their family tradition to the next level, by offering to the world. “treat yourself- don’t cheat yourself!!!

If your in L.A. check for the juices @ Erewhon or Whole foods ( Hollywood and BH locations ) and better health food restaurants  around the city. I wish the guys the best of luck, this is a revoloutianary venture, don’t be surprized if you see the juices at your local grocery store sooner than later. Let’s just say Mikjagga is’nt the only one keeping an eye on this burgeoning company, stay tuned…
